Authentic Cretan Hospitality.
Lived, tasted, and shared.
Discover Crete through our traditions, flavors, and stories. This is not a tour. It is a day that begins with the smell of wood fire, passes through stone mitatos and copper stills, and ends at a long table where the food still remembers the soil it grew from.
One day.
Countless memories.
The experience at Rakidio unfolds step by step. From our family estate and the art of raki, to the mitato, the folklore museum, our traditional table, and finally our small estate shop, every part of your visit brings you closer to authentic Cretan rural life.
We welcome you by reservation only, because Rakidio is our home, and we want to dedicate the time needed to offer you genuine, unhurried Cretan hospitality.
The kazani has
never gone cold.
Neither has the story.
The experience begins at our traditional kazani. Discover the traditional process behind Cretan raki and learn how this unique distillate is created. Every autumn, after the harvest, grapes are pressed and left to ferment. A portion of the fresh must is stored in wooden barrels for wine production, while the rest of the must, along with the grape pomace, is led to the copper kazani, where it is slowly distilled over a wood fire. The process concludes with the production of traditional tsikoudia, at its characteristic strength of around 40% ABV.
- Watch the traditional distillation in the copper kazani
- Learn the history of Cretan tsikoudia
- Taste the fresh distillate straight from the source
Walk the terraces.
Breathe the mountain.
Taste the earth.
Stroll among the seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs we cultivate with care and respect for nature. From here, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Libyan Sea, with the Paximadia islets and Gavdos marking the southernmost inhabited edge of Europe, while behind you rise the mountains of Sellia, where bearded vultures often soar. The garden is part of our daily life and a place that reflects our love for the land, tradition, and the authentic Cretan countryside.

Inside the stone mitato,
hands still shape
what machines forgot.
Get up close to the traditional cheese-making process as it continues at Rakidio. You will watch us milk our goat and participate in making tyrozouli, a fresh, soft Cretan cheese with a mild, refreshing taste. You will taste the warm milk and fresh cheese right as they are made—a flavor that for most is the freshest they have ever experienced. You will also visit the stone mitato and learn how its natural construction maintains the ideal temperature and humidity conditions for traditional cheese-making. Finally, we will place the cheese in traditional molds to take shape, and you will enjoy it later at the end of the experience.
